Peugeot 406 equipped with a wide range of engines. Among the gasoline, the weakest is the already mentioned 1.6-liter unit, which was installed on the Peugeot 405. Its 88 liters. from. was not enough for the car, and therefore in 1999 it was discontinued, so that the restyled model of the weakest among gasoline engines is a 1.8-liter engine with a capacity of 90 liters. from.

Most often there are cars with 1.8- and 2.0-liter engines. The latter has only 16 valves; The 1.8-liter was produced in both 8- and 16-valve versions with a capacity of 90 and 110 liters. with., respectively (after 2001, the 1.8-liter engine began to issue 116 liters. from). One of the technical differences between the 8- and 16-valve 1.8-liter engines is the lack of hydraulic lifters in the first, which is why the gap must be adjusted with washers.

The 2.0-liter engine delivers 132 liters. from. (after 2001, it was replaced by another motor of the same capacity with a capacity of 136 liters. from). In 1996, a 2.0-liter turbocharged engine with a capacity of 147 liters appeared. with., which accelerated Peugeot 406 to 210 km / h. Also, the 406th was equipped with an atmospheric 2.2-liter gasoline engine with a capacity of 158 liters. with., possessing a very impressive dynamics, equipped with balancer shafts.

The most powerful was the 2.9-liter V6 engine. Until 2000, its capacity was 190 liters. s., and then grew to 207 liters. from. In the latter case, the Peugeot 406 with a manual is capable of reaching 240 km / h, and acceleration from 0 to 100 km / h took 8.1 s.

Among diesel engines, the Peugeot 406 with 1.9- and 2.1-liter XUD series turbodiesels with a capacity of 90 liters was most often met. from. and 110 liters. with., respectively. Later they were replaced by DW (or HDi) diesel engines. Such motors have a volume of 2.0 and 2.2 liters. The first (depending on the setting) gave 90 or 110 liters. S., the second – 133 liters. from.

Peugeot Xdp Engine Manual
I recently bought a Colvic Atlanta 31 motor sailor which came fitted with an XDP 4.90 engine and a HBW20 gearbox.
The boat has been neglected and had a lot of rain water sitting in the bilges. This appears to have got into the gearbox which is in a pretty bad state, however, the engine seems to run OK.
I am planning on replacing the gearbox with a new Techno Drive TMC 260, but before I do that should I consider replacing the engine at the same time. Is the XDP 4.90 considered to be a 'good' engine?
The boat was a bargain so if I do end up replacing the engine and gearbox it won't be the end of the world.
All advise gratefully received.
